Moment in Time Writing

Today we wrote moment in time stories about our Athletics Day on Friday. We wrote about the things that we saw, heard and felt. Asher and Lucy have used really good descriptive language. Lucy even used a simile!

Class Award

Today we went to Room 2's assembly and we won the class award. We won the award because we have been working so hard on road safety and being firewise. We were really excited and Miss McLay-Boyd was so proud of us. After assembly we took a photo with the award.

Firefighter Paul

Today Firefighter Paul came to visit Room 1. He taught us about being Firewise. He talked to us about matches, lighters, candles and what we need to do with them. He showed us a book about what to do in a fire. We learned a lot. By Reghan

Slime!

Did you know that if you mix a cup of Lux soap flakes and two litres of warm water you can make slime?

Today we didn't have KC club so the whole class did Kitchen Chemistry. We mixed Lux flakes, water and food colouring together and left it to sit for a while.Then we took it outside to have some messy fun!!!

Animals in the Water

Jesse read a book called Animals in the Water. He made a pic collage to show all the animals in the book!

KC Clubs

On Friday afternoon we have KC club. We split up into our KC groups and go and do lots of different activities with different teachers. It is so much fun!

The Amazing Miss Loynes

For the last four weeks we have been really lucky to have Miss Loynes teach us in Room 1.

She has done lots of cool things with us like teaching us to tell the time, reading, writing and Trash to WOW.

Today is her last day and as a special treat for us she showed us some of the tricks she used to do when she worked in the CIRCUS!!! The whole school came out to watch.

We think she is amazing and we will miss her a lot!

We saw smoke...

We saw smoke...where was it coming from?
We went to investigate. It was over the road. There was a digger and a roller and a big truck. The digger was digging very slowly and putting it into the big truck. There was a fire. Room 1 thought that they were making a new fence. I thought that too. It was on the side of the street. We went to see it. I liked watching the fire and I hope Room 1 liked it too. Then we went back to class to write about it. It was out of bounds.

I saw a fire on the corner of the road. It was cool.

I saw a fire at the house. I saw a roller. Room 1 all saw a digger, a roller and a dump truck too. It was across the road, out of school and around the corner, on the same road as school.

Caterpillar

We found a caterpillar by our class. We noticed yesterday that the caterpillar was hanging upside down. That means it was getting ready to transform. While we were at tennis the caterpillar turned into a chrysalis. In about a week it will be a beautiful butterfly!

Goodbye Brooklyn R

On Wednesday we said goodbye to Brooklyn R. We will miss his energetic personality and sense of humor in Room 1.

We were really sad to see him leave and we wish him and his family all the best in Kerikeri.

Working together

We are learning to work together. Today we drew a group picture of the giant from our big book. We had to talk to each other to plan what we were doing. Then we had to take turns and share while we were drawing the giant. We worked really well and the pictures turned out great!

Goodbye Tyde

Today we said a very sad goodbye to Tyde. We will miss her awesome personality and great smile. We wish her and her family all the best with their move to Christchurch. Hopefully she will be able to check the blog every now and again and let us know how she is going.

We will miss you Tyde!

Wrap Free Wednesday

This week we had nearly half the class wrap free! Every week there are a few more people with wrap free lunches which is great to see.

To be wrap free there needs to be no wrap covering the food...that means no glad wrap or packets.

Re usable things like snap lock bags and containers are great though because they can be used again and won't hurt the environment.

Keep it up Room 1!

Rosie the Cow!

On Friday we were so lucky to have Rosie the Cow come and visit our school. She taught us all about how things work on a farm and how milk gets from the cow and to the supermarkets. We had lots of fun and learned a lot - we think that Rosie's friend Matt learned a lot too!

Room 1 Loves School!

Today is our first day back at school. We are really excited to be in Room 1. Our teacher is Miss McLay-Boyd. We are looking forward to doing reading, swimming, maths, jobs, art, writing and lots of other things! We love Vardon School!
